Science of Effective Early Childhood Education
Program Objectives: This certificate program is designed to provide participants with a strong and practical education over the course of 9 months that will result in an understanding of the science of early childhood development and learning and the application of that knowledge in the classroom setting.
A Certificate from Georgetown University will be issued upon successful completion.
Potential Students: Admission will be open to newly inducted teachers of 3- and 4-year-olds in public and private schools in the District of Columbia metropolitan area. Applicants will have completed a bachelor's degree and be hired as a new teacher (or assistant teacher) of 3- and/or 4-year-olds. Applicants' worksite must agree to allow job-embedded coaching.
Format and Content of Program: Monthly weekend sessions totaling 90 hours of classroom time; regular job-embedded coaching; outside reading; on-line discussions.
