Nancy A. Crowell is Deputy Director for Professional Development, Georgetown University Center on Health and Education. Her recent research involves the role of adult literacy of child care providers on the quality of the care environment and on child language outcomes. During the past 4 years, she has observed child-adult interactions in early care and education settings throughout the Washington DC Metropolitan area as part of a research project on the interactions of child temperament and type of nonparental care. Prior to coming to Georgetown, Nancy spent 13 years at the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences, where she directed studies on violence against women, child labor, and juvenile delinquency. Nancy received a BS in mathematics and French from St. Lawrence University in 1973, an MA in audiology from Vanderbilt University in 1976, and expects to complete a PhD in Human Development and Public Policy from Georgetown University in December 2007.
